No Money for Fidya

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askmufti.co.za

Q: I suffer from severe migraine headaches and asthma which do not allow me to fast in ramadhaan. I don’t have enough money to feed the poor for fast missed. What shall I do?

A. Consult with a good Muslim doctor regarding your condition. If he advises you not to fast, then follow his instructions. Maybe with proper medication it will become possible for you to fast. Also try to fast a day and skip a day, but let the Muslim doctor advise you. If you do not have money for Fidyah, at least make regular Istighfaar and have regret in your heart for not being able to fast. The Fidyah payment is not much, so it will be possible to pay the Fidyah over a period of time throughout the year.
