Grandfather passed away. Was it my fault?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askimam.org

My grandfather passed away a few years back at a very old age. Few months before his death, he was bed ridden as well was not completely in his senses. Few days before his death, he had developed severe chest congestion, which finally lead to his death. Now the fact is that when he developed the chest congestion, no one amongst us thought of putting him in a hospital not showed any urgency in calling s doctor home to look at him. I am now feeling very guilty on the same. Do we need to pay blood money for the same. Regards Furhan

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

Allah says in the Quran:

{إِذَا جَاءَ أَجَلُهُمْ فَلَا يَسْتَأْخِرُونَ سَاعَةً وَلَا يَسْتَقْدِمُونَ} [يونس: 49]

Translation: when their time (of death) comes, it is not delayed nor hastened

It is clear from this verse that the actual time of death for every individual is specified. Your grandfather passed away according to when and how Allah decreed for him to pass away. If you honestly feel there was negligence in taking care of your grandfather, then make tawba and istighfaar. However, there is no blood money to be paid.

And Allah Ta’āla Knows Best
