Cosmetic Procedure Chin

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askimam.org

I require clarification on an issue. I am thinking of undergoing a cosmetic procedure for my chin due to the fact that my lower jaw is recessive and is smaller and pushed back than the rest of my face.

This affects me mentally and constantly distracts me and makes me feel down. I have read that it is permissible to undergo procedures if they are for mental distress but not for cosmetic reasons.

However in my case the distress is caused due to a cosmetic reason on my face and therefore correcting it could be seen as ‘beautification’. I was wondering if this could be clarified?

Also in such a procedure an implant would be placed under the skin on the bone in the chin area and I had heard from friends that in such a case my wudu would no longer be accepted as my face would not be cleansed properly. Is this true?

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

Before commenting on the permissibility of a cosmetic procedure, please clarify to us whether or not your recessive lower jaw bone is perceived by people in general as a deformity.
