What is the ruling in Shariat if in salaam after “wa barakaatuhu” a person adds “Wa maghfiratuhu”? What if he adds “wa jannatul maqaam dozakhul haram” etc?

Assalāmu `alaikum Warahmatullāhi Wabrakatuh,

If your question is about the salaam that is said at the end of salaat then one should say “assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullah”. To add “wa barakaatuhu” after that has been commended by some scholars, whereas other scholars are of the view that doing so is an innovation and must be avoided. However, adding “wa maghfiratuhu” in the salaam at the end of salaat is not proven.  Hence, one must refrain from doing so.

في الدر المختار: ( و ) أنه ( لا يقول ) هنا ( وبركاته ) وجعله النووي بدعة ، ورده الحلبي

وفي الشامي تحته: ( قوله هنا ) أي في سلام التحلل ، بخلاف الذي في التشهد كما يأتي ( قوله ورده الحلبي ) يعني المحقق ابن أمير حاج حيث قال في الحلية شرح المنية بعد نقله قول النووي إنها بدعة ولم يصح فيها حديث بل صح في تركها غير ما حديث ما نصه : لكنه متعقب في هذا فإنها جاءت في سنن أبي داود من حديث وائل بن حجر بإسناد صحيح وفي صحيح ابن حبان من حديث عبد الله بن مسعود ؛ ثم قال : اللهم إلا أن يجاب بشذوذها وإن صح مخرجها كما مشى عليه النووي في الأذكار ، وفيه تأمل ا هـ ( قوله وفي الحاوي أنه حسن ) أي الحاوي القدسي ، وعبارته : وزاد بعضهم وبركاته وهو حسن ا هـ وقال أيضا في محل آخر : وروي وبركاته

If your question is pertaining to the salaam that is said outside of salaat when greeting a Muslim then one should say “asslamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakaatuhu”. He should not add anything else to that. When replying to someone’s salaam, one should say “wa alaikum assalam wa rahmatullahi wa barakaaktuhu’. He should not add “wa maghfiratuhu” to the salaam.

في الدر المختار: ويسلم على الواحد بلفظ الجماعة وكذا الرد ولا يزيد الراد على وبركاته

وفي الشامي تحته: ( قوله ولا يزيد الراد على وبركاته ) قال في التتارخانية : والأفضل للمسلم أن يقول : السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته والمجيب كذلك يرد ، ولا ينبغي أن يزاد على البركات شيء ا هـ

As for “wa jannatul maqaam dozakhul haram”, it is a mixture of Arabic and Urdu and is not from the teachings of the Prophet (sallallaahu alaihi wa sallam). Hence, it is not permissible to say such words after the salaam at the end of salaat or after the salaam when greeting someone.
