Assalaamu `alaykum waRahmatullahi Wabarakatuh
1. It is not permissible to work as a mortgage agent due to its involvement in interest (ribā).
حدثنا عثمان بن أبى شيبة وإسحاق بن إبراهيم – واللفظ لعثمان – قال إسحاق أخبرنا وقال عثمان حدثنا جرير عن مغيرة قال سأل شباك إبراهيم فحدثنا عن علقمة عن عبد الله قال لعن رسول الله -صلى الله عليه وسلم- آكل الربا ومؤكله. قال قلت وكاتبه وشاهديه (صحيح مسلم 5/50؛ دار الجيل)
Rasūlullāh صلى الله عليه وسلمcursed the one who takes interest, gives interest, records it, and the one who witnesses it (Muslim)
2. It is permissible to work as a real estate agent as long as it does not involve facilitating mortgages for customers.Helping arrange interest-bearing loans for customers would entail assisting in sin.
وَتَعَاوَنُوا عَلَى الْبِرِّ وَالتَّقْوَى وَلَا تَعَاوَنُوا عَلَى الْإِثْمِ وَالْعُدْوَانِ وَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ إِنَّ اللَّهَ شَدِيدُ الْعِقَابِ (المائدة: 2)
And assist one another in righteousness and piety, but do not assist one another in sin and transgression.And fear Allāh.Verily, Allāh is severe in punishment (al-Māidah: 2)
