Working as a Real Estate Agent

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by ShariahBoard.org

Assalamu Alalkium,

My question is regarding becoming a real estate agent. If I advise my client to get a loan/mortgage from an Islamic Finance company but they choose Chase Bank or some other non-Islamic bank will my sale be considered Halal? My job was to advise them, I cant force someone to get Islamic Financing. Please let me know if this job will for me.

Transactions (buying & selling) involving interest are considered haram(impermissible) regardless of the situation.

(قال تعالی احل اللہ البیع و حرم الربو   (بقرہ

Since your job is to only show and advise people regarding the suitability of the property for them, it is permissible for you to be involved in this line of work. As the decision about buying the property through interest based (or non-interest based) loan is the client’s, then it is their own responsibility. You do not have a liability in this situation, especially when you advise them regarding buying their property through non-interest based loan.
