1) I have just started a new job, working from home.  This is out of neccessity to help my husband out financially.  I only intend to do it until we are a bit more stable, Inshallah.  What I wanted to know is that my job involves taking catologue orders over the telephone, and sometimes the caller can be a male.  Am I allowed to converse with men, purely on a work bases?  I do this job from within my home, therefore I am not leaving the house.

2) I am getting confused with this masala regarding breaking of the fast due to vomiting unintentionally.  I was under the impression that it breaks if it was a mouthful.  However, some people have told me that no matter how much you vomited, the fast would NOT break as it was involuntary.  Is this true?

Assalaamu `alaykum waRahmatullahi Wabarakatoh

Allah Ta’ala mentions in the Noble Quran:

O wives of the prophet, you are not like any other women, if you observe taqwā (righteousness). So, do not be too soft in your speech, lest someone having disease in his heart should develop fancies (about you); and do speak with appropriate words. [33:32]

A woman by nature has a soft alluring voice. It is that softness in her voice that appeals to men which could lead to fitnah. In order to close the doors to such fitnah, Shariah has ordered that if there is a need for her to converse with non mahram males through purdah or a screen then she should guard her voice and avoid it being soft and alluring.

1.       Therefore, if the need arises for you to converse with a stranger whether it is in person or over the telephone, jurists have given permissibility under strict conditions. The conversation should be precise and to the point and only permissible things should be discussed keeping in mind the tone and texture of your voice.

2.       If a person vomited unintentionally the fast will not break irrespective of the amount. However if the vomit was intentionally swallowed then this will invalidate the fast.
