Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askimam.org

I would like to know is there any hadith or mention about people like us living in a world now days were so many haram things are now very common, people steal, killing, prostitution etc. It is so hard now to stay on the right path with all these temptations and bad influences. Is there a special reward for the people that stick to there religion in such hard times. I totally understand that living at the time of the prophet was hard when the muslims had to fight for there religion; yet in these times we dont have the prophet with us to guide us and keep us in check. Any hadith and explanations would be great.

In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Assalaamu `alaykum waRahmatullahi Wabarakatuh

Nabi صلي الله عليه و سلم has prophesized the difficulties that the Ummah was bound to face after his demise. Nabi صلي الله عليه و سلم has said,

“A time will come when the one who is steadfast on his deen will be like a person holding a burning coal.” (Tirmidhi)

There is no doubt that with the evils and vices prevalent in the present age, it is rather difficult for one to remain steadfast on his religion. However, there are numerous rewards which have been promised for the one who holds firm to his religion inspite of these adverse conditions. In the narration of Sunan Abu Dawood Nabi صلي الله عليه و سلم has given the glad tidings to those who do good actions in such times that for every action they will get the rewards of fifty people.

“After you there will be days of patience; patience on those days will be like holding on a burning coal. The reward of the person who carries out (good deeds) will be like that of fifty people who did that same action.” (Abu Dawood)
Furthermore, the burden of many actions would be made lighter. It is narrated in Tirmidhi that Nabi صلي الله عليه و سلم mentioned to the Sahabah

“You are living in such a (glorious) period that if any of you omits just ten percent of what he has been ordered, he will be taken to task; a time will soon come that by merely practicing on ten percent of what he was commanded, a person will attain salvation.”  (Tirmidhi)

In another narration Nabi صلي الله عليه و سلم expressed his desire to meet such people and mentioned that those people who bring Iman without seeing him are (like his) brothers.

In the narration of Saheeh Muslim, Nabi صلي الله عليه و سلم prophesized the time when Islam will be regarded as something strange and also congratulated those who practice on their religion in this period.

“Verily Islam has started as something strange. It will soon returned to the condition in which it began, so goodness be on those who practice on it when it is strange.”(Muslim)

These are few Ahadith which indicates to the great reward a person will be entitled to by practicing on deen in todays times.  We pray that Allah Ta’ala grants us the opportunity to practice on such actions which pleases him and are a means of our salvation. (Amin)

And Allah knows best
