Animal Testing

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askimam.org

Is testing on animals for medical research to help humans with illnesses considered haraam in Islam? And is it haraam to use products (such as cosmetics) that have been tested on animals?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

It is permissible to use animals for medical research. It is also permissible to use products tested on animals on condition the product itself is halal.[1]
