Littering in Islam: What’s the Status?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: In Islam what is the status of littering / throwing ones small dirt packets etc outside?

Bismillaah

A: Islam advocates purity and cleanliness to the highest level. A Muslim is an example of purity and cleanliness in all facets of his life. We should not throw waste and litter at any place as this will be a means of inconvenience to people, instead we should throw the litter and dirt in the place that has been designated for waste e.g. a bin.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
