Answer

In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

The concept of joint family is not from the Shari’ah. It is a customary thing which in most cases contravenes the basic hijaab laws of Shari’ah. Islaam has greatly emphasized on shame and modesty and has closed all doors leading to shamelessness and immorality. The joint family system opens such doors. Nevertheless, if one wishes to live in a joint family, they should ensure that the laws of hijaab are maintained.

And Allaah Ta’aala Knows Best.
