Collected Rainwater

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askimam.org

Assalamualikum, We live in a Caribbean Island which is like a big mountain. We are above sea level and we don’t have any source of water except the rain water. Every house over here has a cistern. The rain water from the sloping roof top goes through pipes and collects in a cistern. It rains frequently so Alhumdulilah the cistern always stays full. In the cistern we have something like TADPOLES which eat the bacteria making the water clean for us. We use this water for drinking, wadu etc. We drink the water after it has gone through two BRITA water filters. Is it ok to use this water for Wadu, Drinking etc ?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

In principle, rainwater is pure. It may be collected and used for wudu, ghusl, and consumption.

And Allah Ta‘ālā Knows Best.
