What is the significance of the three days and forty days after a
funeral?

As-salāmu ‘alaykumwa-rahmatullāhiwa-barakātuh.
The gatherings of three days and forty days after a funeral has no bases in Islam. One should abstain from such customary practices, as such practices are bid’ah and sinful. (1)
