Lost Money: Can it Count as Sadaqa?

Q: I lost money from my hand bag which I failed to zip up properly when in the shop. Will this lost money be counted as a form of sadaqa for me?

A: Yes.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.

عن جابر رضي الله عنه قال قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم ما من مسلم يغرس غرسا إلا كان ما أكل منه له صدقة ، وما سرق منه له صدقة ، ولا يرزؤه أحد إلا كان له صدقة ، رواه مسلم . (رياض الصالحين 1/ 111)
