Does Islam permit building an advertisement platform (images/videos)?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askimam.org

My question is again related to entrepreneurship. Does Islam permit building an advertisment platform (images/videos)? Here the thought is to ensure that only Shariah compliant ads are hosted/supported with no alcoholic/drugs/haram ads.

I want to discuss more about my business models and would request this group to share an email address so that I can ask queries without they being disclosed publicly.

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

Assalāmu ‘alaykum wa rahmatullāhi wa barakātuh

It is not permissible to advertise products of an impermissible nature.[1]

While in principle video advertising is permissible, if it entails using animate images, it would fall under the prohibition of taswīr (picture-making) according to many scholars. Hence, it would be advisable to avoid video advertising that includes images of people or animals.
