Impermissibility of medical aid insurance schemes

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askimam.org

At the outset, thanx for answering my query on medical insurance cards. (Fatwa#: 30537). However, please note, i found the below fatwa from your fatwa bank where the query posed by the person is as same as mine. Here, you have permitted him to use the medical insurance card where as in my case, you have stated it as “impermissible”. Please clarify. The below fatwa highlighted in yellow for your reference and starts below

Question

My company has issued me medical insurance card with which i can go to some designated hospitals for check up and i only have to pay 15sr for whatever the fee of the doctor and the rest is being paid by the insurance company. Is it permissible for me to use such card? Pls elaborate.

Answer

If you did not take out the medical insurance and the company has offered you the use of their medical insurance card, then you may do so.

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh

Fatwaa#30537 documents the general impermissibility of medical aid insurance schemes and does not refer to your specific situation since we are unaware of the medical aid insurance issued by www.tameen.ae. Kindly provide further clarity on www.tameen.ae in order for us to issue a specific ruling.

Furthermore we assumed that Fatwa#9817 refers to the scenario in which insurance is given to an employee of a non-Muslim company whereas the ruling could change if the insurance was issued by a Muslim company. Kindly advise if you are employed by a Muslim/non-Muslim company.
