What does Shariah and Sunnah say about paying zakah to a relative in need?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Darulifta-Deoband.com
Please guide in the following matter:
Mr. Zaid belonging to sadat family has some amount of zakah to be paid to MUSTAHEKEEN.
Mr. Bakar his nearest relative and also belonging to sadat family is very poor and passing very miserable life. Can Mr. A pay his zakah to Mr. B? Please guide in the light of Shariah and Sunnah.

Answer

(Fatwa: 1245/784/L=1433)

It is not lawful to give zakah money to a person who belongs to a sadat family (Sayyid). If Bakar, the relative of Zaid, is poor then Zaid should help him with the money of nafl sadaqah.
