Can interest money be used for repairing masjid toilets?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Tafseer Raheemi

Asalaam alakium,

In my local masjid is small so the wudu area and toilet cubicles are in one room which is looking very old and dirty. It is also an embarrassment as it is the first thing visitors see when they come into the masjid from outside. Nobody wants to spend money to fix this area but I have heard that it would be permissible to use interest money in order to build or fix a wudu area and toilets in a masjid (no other area), obviously there would be no intention for swab in doing this.

I wouldn’t want anyone thinking I was doing a good deed so I would not tell anyone that I had the work done. I want to get rid of the interest and though this might be a useful way to get rid of it, can you tell me if this would be permissible to use this money to pay for tiles, materials and someone to do the work?

Jazakallah

Answer:

No. This can only be applied to places of extreme necessity.

Over here people should use pure halal money for such purposes, especially when they themselves are going to use that facility at some time. So it will be like making use of your own interest money.
