Muslim Supervision of Meat

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by CouncilofUlama.co.za

Q: If the meat is delivered from the abattoir to the butcher by non Muslim owned transport, then is the meat halal? According to the shariah is it necessary for the meat to be under Muslim supervision at all times until it reaches you at home?

A:
Muslim supervision from the beginning till the end would always be preferable. However if the non-Muslim transport delivered the meat from the abattoir and no haraam meat was in the truck at the same time then the meat would be suitable for consumption. If the Muslim butcher has reasonable doubt of contamination then he should not purchase nor sell that meat. (kifaayatul muftee and kitaabul fataawa vol 4 p 199)
