Working in a Casino

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askmufti.co.za
Q: If a man is unemployed and eventually gets a job at a casino as a supervisor, are his wages Halaal?

A: His wages will not be Halaal. He has to find another job, even if the other job pays a lesser salary. The Holy Qur’aan, in two places, viz Surah Baqarah, verse 219, and Surah Maa-idah, verse 90, has sternly condemned gambling and called it a major sin. Also in Surah Maa-idah, verse 2, Almighty Allah prohibits us to help people in committing sin. The conclusion we thus get from these verses is that to work for a place that promotes gambling is Haraam and a major sin.
