What do I do if my wife doesn’t like me having a full beard?

Can a wife ask a husband not to have a long beard? The only reason here is that she doesn’t like a long beard on his face.

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Walaikum assalam wa rahmatullah,

This dislike your wife has is reprehensible, because it entails dislike of the sunna of the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace). However, the very sunna of the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) would entail that the husband—while remaining firm on following the sunna—respond with excellence, wisdom, love, and gentleness.

Allah Most High tells us,

003.159 It was by the mercy of Allah that you were lenient with them, for if you had been hard and harsh they would have dispersed from round about you. So overlook their errors and ask [Allah for] forgiveness for them and consult with them upon the conduct of affairs. And when you are resolved, then put your trust in Allah. Lo! Allah loves those who put their trust (in Him).

And Allah alone gives success.

Wassalam,

Faraz Rabbani
