Is it permissible to give and receive eid cards, and to make them and sell them?

Is it permissible to give and receive eid cards, and to make them and sell them?

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Walaikum assalam,

Some ulema have deemed this to be an impermissible imitation of the ways of non-Muslims, especially as it relates to religious holidays.

However, most contemporary ulema see the giving of cards (whether for Eid, or other festive occasions) as a harmless social custom, as long as it is free of gross wastefulness and other interdicted matters. In fact, if given with the intention of maintaining family and friendship ties, it would be an act of good.

And Allah knows best.

Faraz Rabbani.
