Breaking prayers if parents call

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Qibla.com

Answered by Sidi Fadi Qutub Zada

Is it permissible to break the Salah (prayer) if called by parents? What is the ruling for Fardh, Sunnah & Nawafils? And how do I complete the Salah -repeat it or continue from where I left?

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

In the Name of Allah, Most Compassionate, Most Merciful,

Wa alaikum assalam wa Rahmatullah

Imam Al-Haskafi in his famous work al-Dur l-Mukhtar says:

If one of his parents calls him while:

  1. He is in the obligatory prayer: he does not answer unless they appeal for his help

  2. He is in the sunna or voluntary prayer:  he answers if they are unaware that he is praying; otherwise, he does not answer them. [f: this is because “there is no obedience to the created in that which is disobedience to the creator”]

If one breaks the prayer, one would have to repeat it from the beginning.

And Allah knows best
