Can my child join the congregation?

Answered as per Shafi'i Fiqh by Qibla.com

Answered by Ustadha Zaynab Ansari, SunniPath Academy Teacher

While praying in jama’ah at the masjid, can I have my 3 year old stand next to me in line with others?

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

In the name of Allah, Most Compassionate, Most Merciful,

From what I have studied in the Reliance, it would not be impermissible. But you should make sure that your child understands that she shouldn’t fidget or move around a lot. If she steps out of place, you should move to fill up the spot so the row will be complete. Here is a link that goes into more detail:

Children in the Masjid: The fiqh of children standing in the prayer lines

I pray that this is helpful.
