Is It Permissible to Eat Raw Meat or Fish?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Seekersguidance.org

Answered by Shaykh Faraz A. Khan

Question: Is eating raw meat/fish allowed?

Answer: Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullah,

I pray this finds you in the best of health and states.

Meat is permissible to eat as long as the animal is lawful and was slaughtered Islamically. As for eating it raw, the issue would return to whether doing so would normally make you sick or not — if prepared in a way such that normally one would not get ill, then it would be permissible.

Fish, whether raw or otherwise, is permissible. As with any food though, one would need to make sure there are no illicit ingredients or flavoring added.

And Allah knows best.
