Is it permissible to hold a program on the first of Muharram in commemoration of the martyrdom of Hazrat Umar (R.A)?

This has no significance in itself. However, in our times, if such programs are held with a good motive, or to stop any form of corruption in a diplomatic manner, then it is allowed.
