Watching Images and Videos of Living Beings on Computers

Question:

The scholars have different opinions on watching images and videos of living beings on computers, phones, or tv. Some scholars said that is image-making which is haram others said not. I don’t want to take the risk so I avoid watching it. But I like to code and I want to be a developer. There are a lot of software and programming languages that have the logo of an animal: python (image of two snakes), PostgreSQL (elephant face), MySQL (a full dolphin), and many others. I can’t do programming without one of them and when I read courses on it these logos appear on the screen and if it’s a video the face of the instructor appears on the screen also. My intention is just to use these programming languages to code halal programs and to get a halal job. Can I use these programming languages, and read and watch courses on them knowing that in most cases the animal logo will appear on screen?

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer:

There are numerous Ahadith that warn against one actively participating in picture-making of animate beings, so it is best that you continue to take precautions as far as possible to abstain. However, in our current times, it is almost impossible to avoid encountering animate pictures in the form of newspaper articles, magazines, online apps etc. If you are unable to find software or program languages that work competently and do not have any animated logo, then you may use the ones with the logo.

Only Allah (عز و جل) knows best.
