I was wondering if nikah over phone or on web cam is permitted in Islam or not? If yes then what are the different requirements for the nikah to be wajib under such conditions.
The condition of a proper wedding is that there should be an offer and acceptance in the presence of two witnesses. If somebody tries this over the phone there is a possibility that it might create a lot of confusion. Therefore, we recommend taking precaution from such a thing even if people are familiar with the voices. The best way to do this might be to have representatives from the both sides who can conduct the proceedings, while everybody listens.
