Fasting Whilst Pregnant

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by DarulIftaBirmingham

Question:

I have been fasting since the start of Ramadan but I am overdue my period. I decided to take a pregnancy test at sehri which tested positive. Upon waking up this morning at 10 am, I took another test which also tested positive confirming my pregnancy.

My question is do I intentionally break my fast, or do I continue until iftar?

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer:

A pregnant woman should fast, just like anyone else, unless she fears for her health or for her baby, in such case it is allowed for her not to fast. i

So, it is a misconception that pregnancy breaks the fast. You should continue to fast as long as it is safe for you and your child.

Only Allah knows best.
