What Can Couples Do if Their Nikah Was Done but Rukhsati Has Not Been Done?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by DarulIftaBirmingham

Answered by: Shaykh Ahmed Bin Mohamed Umarji

Question:

If a couple has their nikah done, and the parents aren’t agreeing on getting the rukhsati done for cultural reasons, and the wife really wants to see her husband, what would be the correct course of action for the husband?

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer:

Once the Nikaah is complete, it is permissible for the newlyweds to see each other.1

The husband should request his parents in a respectful manner to facilitate and allow the couple to have their rukhsati. Nonetheless, the couple is allowed to see each other as the nikah is complete.

Only Allah knows best
