Is Test Tube Baby allowed in Islam?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Darulifta-Deoband.com
Assalamu Alaikkum Mufti Sahib, I need a clarification based on Shariyat. My sister got married 3 years ago and still Allah not blessed her with child. After getting much pressure from her husband family, we had consulted with some of the best doctor’s in Chennai. Doctor’s said that, she can’t become conceive in a natural way as she doesn’t have the eggs of her own. The only way they have given us, TEST TUBE Baby using my sister’s husband spem with some other women’s egg. They will inject the both to my sister’s uterus. Referring the about situation, I would like to get clarification based on the Shariyat for the following questions, 1. Test Tube Baby method is allowed in Islam? 2. If it is allowed, then is it fine if we use other women’s egg for it? 3. If this also accepted, Is it acceptable if we get that egg from my another Sister ? 4. Now her husband is forcing her to go by Test Tube baby. Please let us know whether she can accept her husband wish or not if the Tube Baby method is not acceptable in Islam? 5. If the Test Tube method is not acceptable, please let us know on what basis it is not acceptable, as there was no technology like this in our prophet period ? Our family is eagerly waiting for your response. Allah Kafiz.

Answer

(Fatwa: 237/L-62/Tl=1431)

Adopting the method of test tube baby is unnatural and unlawful.

(2 & 3) This act is based on immodesty and shamelessness and should be stopped.

(4) It is not allowed to help people in wrongdoings. So if you?re the husband of your sister forces her for this act, she is not asked to obey her husband.

(5) The method of test tube baby is unnatural, also it involves many other un-Islamic acts e.g. masturbating for getting semen, getting the semen of woman, and opening her satar (private parts) before a person if one who injects it in the vagina is other than her husband. This (uncovering satr) before strange person cannot be allowed for getting benefit. And due to injecting the semen of husband into the uterus of non-mahram woman, increases its heinousness. Hence Muslims should avoid getting baby through this method. And one should be content with the decision of Almighty Allah. Islam does not absolutely oppose science and technology; it only opposes the systems that contradict Shariah.
