Assalamualikum, We received Life insurance money of rs 2,15,000, whereas the person who has died paid only 1,00,000 and nominated his daughter,my wife as nominee. We hope we can use the premium money of rs 1,00,000 the balance is with us Please advise in what ways we can spend the money?

Answer

(Fatwa: 1490/1182=H/1430)

1,00,000 will be considered to be the wealth left by the dead in which all the heirs will have their due shares according to Shariah. The extra 1,15,000 is interest which the heirs should give to the poor and needy without an intention of reward, so that they are protected against the repercussions of the same. You will not have any share in his property and wealth, rather your wife (his daughter) will receive her shares. Had you written the detail of the heirs, we would have given you details about the shares of each heir separately.
