Can a Muslim Woman Go to a Salon To Get a Bikini Wax?

Answered as per Shafi'i Fiqh by Seekersguidance.org

Question

I wanted to know if a woman can go to a female salon to get her bikini area waxed. Waxing does a better job of removing hair and it is too hard to self wax in that area. Also, the salon workers do not talk about their clients.

Answer

Assalamu alaykum,

Thank you for your question.

Bikini wax

It is not permissible to get a bikini wax because it would entail exposing one’s nakedness to someone other than one’s husband. He is the only one that would be allowed to see that area. Please see more details here:

Although it would be easier for someone else to do it for you, it is necessary and worthwhile to learn to do it yourself. There are an array of products that can be used. In Jordan, where I lived, young ladies are commonly taught to use wax in that area themselves, and practice makes perfect.

May Allah give you the best of this world and the next.
