Convey salam when entering the Masjid

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by DarulIftaBirmingham

Convey salam when entering the Masjid

In the name of Allah, the most Beneficent, the most Merciful.

Answer

There are two possible situations to the aforementioned question:

  1. If the people in the Masjid are engaged in worship such as Salah and reciting the Holy Qur’an then one should not give salam.
  2. If the people are not engaged in worship, then one can give salam.

Finally, if no one is in the masjid upon entering or there are people engaged in worship then one can say quietly ‘Asalamu Alaina Mir Rabbina Wa Ala Ibadilahis Saliheen’.   (Fatawa Rahimiyah p.156 v.2 & Aapke Masaail p.139 v.3)
