About Istibraa

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Fatwaa.com

Assalamualaikum
Q: Is istibra a burden on a human being?
Because in a day a person goes average 6-8 times for answering nature’s call, and every time performing istibra is time consuming.
Many times it takes more time and causes frustration (that I am spending more time on istibra than salah or any other activity)
Please councel me and explain to me ,
Many thoughts are coming which i can’t share
Please give me some satisfactory answer….

Answer

Wa’alaykum as Salam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu,

Itibraa is the process where a male ensures that the last drops of urine are taken out.

This is a simple process which generally happens just with a cough or clearing the throat. Some people need to take a few steps, and the final drops come out.

You not supposed to do Istibraa more than even two times, leave alone doing it six to eight times.

If you drops come out, you do not have to go back to the toilet every time each drop exits. Rather, you can do Istibraa one time once all the drops are out.

If lots of drops emanate, then it is a medical problem, and you need to consult with a doctor or Hakim.

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best

Wassalaam,
