Question

Is saying Ya Rasulallah shirk? Even if you are just sending salam to Mohammad (PBUH). Also, can we say that Prophet (PBUH) is alive in the heavens? Also when some people visit the Roza (grave) of the Prophet (PBUH) they say Prophet is alive in his Roza listening to our prayer is that true Islamically? And are we allowed to believe in that?

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer

It is the belief of the Ahle Sunnah Wal Jamaah that all the Prophets and Messengers of Allah (SWA) are alive in their graves. Saaiduna Aws Ibn Aws Radiallahu Anhu narrates that the Prophet of Allah Sallallahu Alahi Wasalam said: “Send salutations in abundance on me on Friday, as your sending salutations are presented to me. The Companions inquired: “How is it possible that you receive our salutations when your body will have been decayed? The Prophet of Allah Sallallahu Alahi Wasalam said: “Verily Allah has made forbidden on the earth that it eats the bodies of the Prophets” (Sunan Abu Dawud)

From the aforementioned Hadith, we can derive that the Prophet of Allah Sallallahu Alahi Wasalam is alive in his grave and he hears our durud and salutations towards him and also replies to our salutations.
