Is There Anything Wrong With Walking Under a Tree at Night

Question:

Salam, mufti sahib. A weird question, but is there anything wrong with walking under trees at night. I feel like there is this myth perpetuated by people that walking at night in the vicinity of trees is dangerous due to jinn or whatever.

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

We have not come across such information during our research.

Nevertheless, Imam al-Nawawiرحمة الله عليه mentions that ‘al-Bayhaqi رحمة الله عليهsaid, It is disliked to walk outside at the beginning of the night because of the Hadith of Jabirرضي الله عنه who said, the Prophet (s.a.w) said: “Do not send your property and your children outside when the sun disappears until the blackness of the night is gone, for verily the devils spread out when the sun sets until the blackness of the night is gone.” It was related by Muslim.’[1]

This evidence states that there is a dislike only but there are other pieces of evidence as well that Prophet (s.a.w) traveled by night.

So, when you go out for a walk ensure that you are with wudhu, made your duʿa of protection and Allah Taala will protect you, in shā Allah.
