Is It Sinful If I Praise Allah For Inspiring Me To Say “Alhamdulillah?”

Answered as per Shafi'i Fiqh by Seekersguidance.org

Question: Sometimes when I am blessed by Allah, I praise him by saying Alhamdulilah and then I say Alhamdulilah for Allah blessing me to say Alhamdulilah. Is this bid’a if I say it every time in this situation?

Answer:

Assalamu alaykum,

Thank you for your question. It is certainly not a reprehensible innovation (bid’a) to praise Allah twice, even if you do it continuously. I would say that your praise is correctly placed. I encourage you to learn and memorize even better forms of praise so that your reward can be greater.

The Prophet, Allah bless him and give him peace, said, “The best invocation is that of the Day of Arafat, and the best that anyone can say is what I and the Prophets before me have said:

لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ لَهُ الْمُلْكُ وَلَهُ الْحَمْدُ وَهُوَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْء قدير

None has the right to be worshipped but Allah, Alone, Who has no partner.
His is the dominion and His is the praise, and He is Able to do all things.[Tirmidhi]
