Question

Will a Single or Multiple Mujaddids Appear Each Century?

Answer

Walaikum Assalam,

I hope you’re doing well, insha’Allah.

There are several opinions regarding the hadith on revivers (mujaddidin). Some understood this to refer to there being one particularly great reviver per age. Others said that it refers to their being revivers—not necessarily one—in each age.

They also differed as to whether the term for age refers to (a) a century; (b) a generation; or (c) other period of time.

However, the narration in Sunan Abu Dawud explicitly mentions “the top of each century.”

The scholars speculated as to who the specific individuals were.

And Allah is the giver of success and facilitation.
