Women Travelling Alone By Plane

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Darulifta Azaadville

Question:

We always learnt that for a women travelling sharee safar distance she needs a mahram with her for the full travel?

Recently, I was told by an Aalim that she only needs the mahram to drop her by the airport and pick her up from the airport eg a women is travelling from Joburg to Durban, so she only needs a mahram to drop her by the airport here in Joburg and a mahram to pick her up from Durban airport (that means during the flight she travels alone)

can Mufti Saheb please clarify for me what is correct

Answer:

Our Darul Ifta’s view is that a woman cannot, under any circumstances, undertake a Shar’ee Safar (77.25 kilometres and above) alone, regardless of what conveyance she is travelling in.
