Vows

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Fatwaa.com

Aa.I had made too many vows to Allaah most of which were unfufilled and some i knew the implications and others i knew not.Dear mufti,i have come to my senses now and want to repent but how will i be forgiven?too much unfufilled vows i can’t remember most

Answer

Wa’alaykum as Salam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu,

You should try your level best to estimate how many vows you took. If you can manage, you should pay Kaffarah for each vow seperately. This is the best.

However, if you cannot manage to pay for each vow separately, you may pay one Kaffarah for all your vows.

The Kaffarah is:

1)    To feed ten people an average meal twice in a day. Alternatively, feed one person two meals a day for ten days;

2)    Clothe ten people.

3)    If you are unable to feed or clothe people as explained above, then you should fast for three consecutive days.

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best

Wassalaam,

Ismail Moosa (Mufti)
