Playing a game with non-muslims (URGENT)

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Fatwaa.com

I will try to explain it as much as i can. Please reply. So, basically there is this game called ROBLOX. In this game there is a group called British Army. You basically attend so-called “trainings” or “tryouts” to join certain regiments, or to be promoted. Although most of the Trainees and hosts are non-muslim. I was promoted to be a host, to train people. I want to know if it is permissible to continue in this group. (I talk unfriendly to them too). Link:

It has an affliate, called AFA (Army football association). What you do here is basically is join or make a team, and recruit people. Then there is matches you play and many times you play with non-muslims against non-muslims, but there are some muslims too. All of this is in a game. You also talk to the non-muslim about the team, like for example, our team leader (probably non-muslim) tells me to go defence or attack etc. The team manager is also non-muslim. I also talk with the non-muslims but i talk in an unfriendly manner, because i cannot have them as friends, since they are non-muslims. And you play matches, but their is no prize. You just talk with non muslims about the team. P.S I do not waste too much time on it, Max. 1 hour per day.

Answer

Wa’alaykum as Salam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu,

If there is music, animate objects, violence or no benefit in any game, it will not be permissible to play such a game.

If there is benefits in the game, then it will be permissible to play. It will also be permissible for you to communicate with non Muslims.

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best

Wassalaam,

Ismail Moosa (Mufti)
