Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Fatwaa.com

Assalam walaikum, Alhamdulillah the place where we live we can hear like 3 muadhin give Azan while at the same time my mother puts Azan on tv as well,as soo as it ends on one channel she outs it on another one..hence when we at home are listening to Azan we here like 4Azan at the same time but it clashes. is it permissible to do this please guide me as many people pointed it out that this is wrong like if i have started praying i would hear Azan from another city on tv and i get confused whether to stop and listen or continue my salah Jazak Allah

Answer

Wa’alaykum as Salam wa rahamatullahi wa barakatuhu,

Your mother should switch off the television at the time of Adhaan.

From the remaining three Adhaans, whilst it is permissible for you to pray whilst the Adhaan is on, it is recommended that you reply the Adhaan. You should choose one Adhaan which you should respond to. In a narration of Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim, Abu Saeed al-Khudhri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said,

إذا سمعتم النداء فقولوا مثل ما يقول المؤذن

“When you hear the call to prayer, then say as the Muadhin says.”

Thereafter, once that Adhaan is over, you may pray. It will not matter if you can hear the other two Muadhins, as long as it does not confuse you in your prayer. If you do get confused, then you should pray at the end of all the Adhaans.

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best
