Wearing pardah/ niqaab in madina during salaam

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Fatwaa.com

Salaams hope you’re well

Hoping you can help me. Inshallah i am going for hajj in august and starting my preps. I was told by someone that when i go to madina and go to do Salam upon our prophet i will need to wear a niqaab to cover my face our our prophet will turn his face away from us. I was wondering how authentic that is.

Wasalaam

Answer

Wa’alaykum as Salam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu,

May Allah make your Haj easy for you and accept it.

There is no proof to show that the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) will turn his face away from a lady who has her face unveiled when making Salam. Whilst it is permissible to make Salam with the face uncovered,  it is better for a female to cover herself, out of Adab (etiquette).

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best

Wassalaam,

Ismail Moosa (Mufti)
