Plaited Rose gold

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

1. Gold plating is a process where a thin layer of gold is bonded onto a base metal.[1] The base metal could be either a metal on which Zakaat is not Wajib (e.g. copper, tungsten) or a metal on which Zakaat is Wajib (i.e. gold and silver). The ruling of Zakaat on plated jewellery will depend on the base metal:
2. If the base metal is neither gold nor silver, Zakaat will not be Wajib on the jewellery.
3. If the base metal is either gold or silver, Zakaat will be Wajib on base metal irrespective of what the plating is. Therefore, the jewellery piece will be considered silver if the base is silver, and gold if the base is gold. [2]

If one is unable to determine the nature of the base metal, then he should consult a jeweller. If this is not possible, then it is better to give the Zakaat of gold for that piece of jewellery as a precaution.

2. It is permissible for women to wear rose gold plated rings.[3]

بدائع الصنائع في ترتيب الشرائع (2/ 17)

فَأَمَّا إذَا كَانَتْ مَغْشُوشَةً فَإِنْ كَانَ الْغَالِبُ هُوَ الْفِضَّةُ فَكَذَلِكَ؛ لِأَنَّ الْغِشَّ فِيهَا مَغْمُورٌ مُسْتَهْلَكٌ كَذَا رَوَى الْحَسَنُ عَنْ أَبِي حَنِيفَةَ أَنَّ الزَّكَاةَ تَجِبُ فِي الدَّرَاهِمِ الْجِيَادِ وَالزُّيُوفِ وَالنَّبَهْرَجَةِ وَالْمُكْحُلَةِ وَالْمُزَيَّفَةِ.

قَالَ: لِأَنَّ الْغَالِبَ فِيهَا كُلِّهَا الْفِضَّةُ وَمَا تَغْلِبُ فِضَّتُهُ عَلَى غِشِّهِ يَتَنَاوَلُهُ اسْمُ الدَّرَاهِمِ مُطْلَقًا.
