Answer

This is a Hadith recorded in Sunan Abi Dawud. This Hadith is regarding Sayyiduna ‘Amr ibnul Fhagwa Al Khuza’i (radiyallahu ‘anhu) when he was sent by Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) to Abu Sufyan to distribute some wealth among the Quraysh in Makkah after the Conquest of Makkah. Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) asked him to take a travel companion along with. He went with ‘Amr ibn Umayyah Ad Damri.

(Sunan Abi Dawud, Hadith: 4828)

The words ‘ أخوك البكري ولا تأمنه’ is a term/proverb used in the Arabic language which means ‘Your elder brother, do not even trust him’ i.e. You should be cautious when it comes to your own elder brother and all the more, you should be cautious when dealing with a stranger.

(Refer: Sharh Ibn Raslan and Badhlul Majhud, Hadith: 4861

Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) cautioned Sayyiduna ‘Amr (radiyallahu ‘anhu) and taught him an important lesson when it comes to financial dealings that since he is travelling with money, he should be aware of whom he trusts.

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
