Another version of the narration regarding the parable of a believer when he is afflicted by illness or fever

Question

What is the source of this Hadith?

إنما مثل العبد المؤمن حين يصيبه الرعد والحمى، كمثل حديدة تدخل النار فيذهب خبثها ويبقى طيبها

Answer

Imam Hakim (rahimahullah) has recorded this Hadith. He has declared the Hadith authentic and ‘Allamah Dhahabi (rahimahullah) concurs.

Sayyiduna ‘Abdur Rahman ibn Azhar (radiyallahu ‘anhu) reported that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said:

“The parable of the believer, when he is afflicted by a shiver or fever, is that of a piece of iron placed in the fire; its defects disappear and its goodness remains.”

(Mustadrak Hakim, vol. 1 pg. 73)
