Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by HadithAnswers.com

Question

Kindly provide the reference in Sahih Bukhari wherein full mention is made of the Hadith ‘Actions are based on intention’.

Answer

Imam Bukhari (rahimahullah) has recorded the complete version of this narration throughout many places in his Sahih, all of which have been recorded on the authority of Sayyiduna ‘Umar (radiyallahu ‘anhu).

(Refer: Sahih Bukhari, Hadith: 1, 54, 2529, 5070, 6689, 6953; Also see: Sahih Bukhari, Hadith: 3898)

Translation

Sayyiduna ‘Umar (radiyallahu ‘anhu) has reported that Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said:

‘Verily actions are but by the intention, and a person will only be [awarded according] to his intention. Therefore, whosoever’s emigration was for Allah and His Rasul, then his emigration will be for Allah and His Rasul. And whosoever’s emigration was to attain something of this world, or to marry a woman, then his emigration will be for that which he emigrated for.’

(Sahih Bukhari, Hadith: 6689)

And Allah Ta’ala knows best.
