Does a pap smear or the insertion of medication in the private part of a woman break her fast?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by TheMufti.com

Q. Does a pap smear or the insertion of medication in the private part of a woman break her fast?

A. As a rule, if any substance reaches one’s digestive system whilst fasting, the fast will be invalid.

In terms of a woman inserting medication in the private part or undergoing a pap smear whilst fasting, the fast will not be invalidated. This is primarily due to the fact that there the stomach is not connected to the woman’s genital organs directly in any way and thus, it does not reach the digestive system to invalidate the fast.
