The sequence of placing the body of a male and a female in Janaazah Salaah

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by TheMufti.com

Q. At our Masjid, there were two Mayyits, a male and a female. Janazaah Salaah was performed for both of them together. Is this correct? Should Janaazah Salaah have been performed for both of them separately?

A. The Janaazah Salaah for a deceased male and female can be done collectively or individually at the Masjid. In doing so, the deceased male’s body will be placed first in front of the Imaam. Then the deceased female’s body will be placed in front of the Imaam after the deceased males’ body.

In both cases, the male and female deceased bodies will be placed in line with the chest of the Imaam. (Al Bahrur-Raaiq 2/202-Tabyeenul Haqaaiq 1/242)
